Steinem is speaking on the fact that women are viewed as a sex inferior to men. Women are also viewed differently than men. She wants her reader to think women can be more than they are viewed as. She wants to challenge what the predominant idea of what a woman is and or should be like.

  2. The author talks about the differences between men and women. She states that in her generation women didn't play hardly any sports and she also talks about women being weaker than men. She talks about this, because she wants to let women know that they can stand up for themselves and be as strong or even stronger than men.

The author talks about how society's standards imply that women and men are at different strengths and power. She wrote "men as a group have more speed and upper body strength, and women have better balance, endurance and flexibility" that made me think that instead of having men as a more "powerful" authority to women, men and women were supposed to be compatible for each other, no matter the situation. Women are made to be seen as weak, and once they are up to the standard of power like men, they are seen as something out of the norm.

  4. Steinem's essay is about men's physical authority over women. Men naturally are stronger than most women. But when lower class women have physical strength due to hard labor, they were somewhat brainwashed into thinking that physical strength was not something that a man would see as acceptable. Its not about winning its about being chosen, the essay states. Men wanted to be the only gender to possess strength, and they will do or say anything to keep it that way. Women are constantly having to change their appearance to please men. One year men feel that they want women to have big breasts and big hips, the next year they find slim girls to be attractive. It's a never ending cycle of changing the mold for what a perfect woman should look like.

  5. Gloria Steinem wanted the audience to see the difference in gender. Men had physical control of women. She showed comparison between the strengths in between them two but also explains the way lower class women were very physical because of the hard labor they had to do. Steinem wanted to show that women are capable of having physical strength and as well to have women stand up for their ability because they are viewed to be these model look alike and not show their strengths.

  6. Gloria Steinem main purpose is to speak to women about the impact of increasing our physical strength could have on our daily lives. She goes to compare how the power of women is viewed compared to how they view the power of men. Society now in days views women as the weaker sex. To me being fit and being a strong women should not be viewed as ugly. Women have the ability to be as strong as men. To change themselves to feel good about how they look and not try to fit into the way society wants a women to look like. Men are not the only humans who can have physical strength which is the way society views it. Women should not feel ashamed about their appearance or try to get other people to accept and like the way they look. What matters is how women view themselves and what they are capable of doing for themselves.

  7. I found Gloria Steinman's type of writing very confusing. At times I had to re-read sentences to understand them. I believe her main point she claims is that she believes women are viewed as weak and just for making babies. Se believes women need to build physical strength in order to be viewed more seriously by men

  8. Gloria made a good point that women are viewed inferior to men, a problem that it is still present in our society for example women are paid less than men. also, she mentioned that women are appreciated for their bodies and not for their skills. Even though, women get an education and they are more prepared than back then, women are still seen weaker than men.

  9. the main point of to this story is, just because a woman are viewed only for their bodies in a sport doesn't mean a woman is weaker than men. also if a woman wants to go work out at the gym let her. we don't need society telling us woman what to do. woman need to take a stand and say enough or keep being criticized.

This essay was about woman being weaker than man. Also that woman were being critized for there bodies not Their looks. If you were skinny they were suppose to go with a rich white man. If you were fat you had to be with a color person. Basically how woman had to be weaker than men. Not It's about woman being weaker than man. Also that woman were being critized for there bodies not Their looks. If you were skinny they were suppose to go with a rich white man. If you were fat you had to be with a color person. Basically how woman had to be weaker then men. The fact that women let themselves go to a certain extent to be viewed as a weak target because of what men use to think is sad.

  11. Steinem pretty much explains how society views men and women. She explains how it wasn't how good a woman was at something, it was more about her body display. If you didn't have the right face or figure for something, you could just forget about it. Everything she says is true because that's still somewhat an issue today. When the author says , "the power lies not within us but in the gaze if the observer," it's so true because woman are looked at based on their appearances not skills.

The essay goes over the differences of the strengths between men and women. Being a woman, it is harder to live in society today because of the judgments and expectations. For many generations, women were seen as weak and fragile creatures. I believe that women today are more confident in their appearances and are stronger than they've ever been.

  13. Women always have to be judged for everything. It seems as if we cannot please in any way when it comes to society. In the essay, it sounds more like racism towards women, men and race. The physical looks should not matter when trying out for a sport or work, what matters is the brain not the body. People need to stop criticizing because as time goes by it can get worse.

  14. This essay has some similarity with "When the Other Dancer is Self" in the beggining Steinem talks about looks being more important than sports and if you wanted to make the cheerleading squad your looks DID matter. Steinem also talks about how the women in her generation don't really play sports. The women in her generation was more into cheerleading, ballet, & tap dancing. She also talks about how men played the more physical sports.

  15. Stienem talks about how women are seen as weaker than men. She also explains how throughout the years views on women have been changing and also being judged by the way they look.

  16. Gloria Steinem discusses the meaning of strength, society places on women. Men are viewed as the stronger group while women are looked down upon as weak. I grew up with 5 sisters and 2 brothers, my brothers and I shared the same interests. I was a tomboy from elementary to middle school so I enjoyed masculine sports like basketball, track and football. I never wanted to be a cheerleader, I felt like that wasn't really a physical sport. Judging women based on their physical abilities is silly, women and men are both strong in their own ways.

  17. Discrimination between men and women is a very controversial subject. I believe that men and women have the right to do as they please. Some women like to do behind the desk jobs and some do not, so what. Humans have the tendency to generalize others and it helps most individuals in to finding what they like and dislike. The writer in my opinion should be focusing on more important topics than discrimination between the genders. The reading was of not great interest to me.

  18. Gloria Steinem wanted the audience to understand that men always want to have a higher power then women. Men are always known to be the ones who have the higher power to do or say what they want and that women do not fully understand how it feels to be in that kind of position. Women try everyday to prove themselves that they can be as powerful as men. Men just always had the higher title in life since they were young. We were al lraised to know that men are the ones who will have to provide for their families and women will need to stay home. In reality men and women are equal power in their own ways. No one has the higher power over the other. It's a battle between men and women but whos really winning ? Overall, I very much enjoyed reading this.

  19. Steinem states how society views women as weaker then men. She explains how women should be able to play men sports , and should be equal to men when it comes to power. She explains how women should not follow how society views them ,they should break that and do the roles men do.
