Final Extra Credit Opportunity Ted Talk--Micro Sculptor

The following link will take you to an amazing Ted Talk. The video clip isn't particularly academic or scholarly, but Willard Wiggan's feat is so fantastical that I wanted to share it with you. Listen and comment below.

  1. I think it is incredible how he was able to create such beauty from objects so small. The materials he used were all things we use/see in our everyday lives, but don't acknowledge that they are there. He has shined a light on the little things in life and has made amazing art.

It was very fascinating hearing Willard's story of how he got to making microscopic art. I'm just in awe thinking about how much work it would take, and the patience needed to make such microscopic art.

  3. I thought it was amazing how he was able to create art the size of a pinhead. His ability to be so steady and stiff is also unique. I didn't think it was possible to create art that small it's actually amazing.

  4. I think this guy is really talented. You can tell he is a very patient person to spend so much time on creating something like that. It really puts value into his work because people find it hard to believe that somebody can actually make something so amazing by hand. Artwork like that is very hard to come by and that's probably why the person asked him if he was using a machine to help him sculpt these objects. I thought this video was incredible and fun to watch. I don't understand how he can create something on that small of scale.

  5. I think that his work is amazing. It is amazing how he made those figures so small. He has an unique talent. He has shown us that everything is possible if we really wish it. Also, he showed that art can be made from anything. It also makes me in some ways appreciate small things. We, human beings, have the ability to make great things if we want, like Willard.

  6. The Ted talk was completely "crazy talk." It made me be surprised of where a person's mind can go to create such creative objects. it's really cool how they do this. I personally wouldn't have the patience to do build such tiny-tiny objects like he did on the needle. The one that surprised me the most was the sailboat.
